The other day I was holding the door for someone at the church when someone came up and made a joke saying "Don't you have something better to do than hold the door Pastor?" Now, I know it was a joke. They were teasing me, I get it; but often there is a little bit of truth mixed in to every joke and so I want to take a quick second to address it.
No, I don't. Don't misunderstand me. I have plenty to do. There is always one more hospital visit I could do or one more phone call I could make. There is always one more meeting I could schedule or commentary I could read. I could always use more time to prepare or practice my sermon. I am busy just like the rest of you. But, I deeply believe, based on the example of Jesus, that people matter more than tasks. Jesus was always ready to drop his busy schedule at a moment's notice when someone needed him. Jesus was a BUSY guy, but he was NEVER too busy for people. He made time to help. He made time to heal. He made time to talk. He made time to weep. He made time. So no, I don't have anything BETTER to do than hold the door for a lady so that she can come into the church and worship Jesus. I have other things I could do, but nothing better. She matters. And for me to take two minutes to show her kindness by holding the door for her, well that is a small price to pay. Let us all seek to follow the example of Jesus, in big and small ways, as we always value people over tasks in our everyday lives. In Christ, Pastor Scott

I want to take a minute and celebrate with you some of the wonderful things that God is and has been doing at Six Points Church. As the Pastor, I get an up close seat to see things that maybe not everyone sees and so I want to share with you so that you too can celebrate.
First, Easter was amazing! I hope you were able to join us in person or online. We had over 250 people in our worship service, over 50 kids in KidsQuest, 13 more teachers and nursery volunteers leading and hundreds of views online as well! Not only were a lot of people part of the service, but we saw an incredible impact! We were able to celebrate one baptism (yeah Jason!), and now have at least 4 people scheduled to be baptized on May 15 (with a few more potentially interested!). And at the end of our service we offered people a chance to take a step of faith and we had multiple people raise their hands. We will be working to follow up with them this week!!! Praise God! We also had a wonderful Holy Week! I love our Palm Sunday tradition of having our children wave the palm branches and shout Hosanna! Our Holy Thursday service was a powerful night of praise & communion. And our Easter Egg hunt brought hundreds of local people to our church property for a day of fun and faith (we always share the good news of Jesus here at Six Points). All of this was made possible by a terrific team of volunteers made up of adults and some awesome teenagers! Finally, I want to brag on a few people who did a lot of work behind the scenes this week. I am not going to name names, because they didn't do it for the glory of men; but several of our leaders went WAY above and beyond over the last few weeks to make our church and property look its best in preparation for Easter and Holy Week. These men and women took it upon themselves to look for things that could be done and do them. They love their church and were willing to work hard for the Lord so that others might know Jesus. I am grateful for their attitude of selflessness. This servant leadership is the type that Jesus modeled for us and seeing it in our church this week was a beautiful blessing to me. God is on the move at Six Points in both big and small ways. I am excited to be part of a church where God's word is loved, His example is followed and His people love one another. In such a place anything is possible. Let's celebrate together, not just on Easter, but often the good things that God has done and is doing among us! In Christ, Pastor Scott Last year we started a new and fun tradition here at Six Points with our "Living Cross." This isn't a new idea, other churches do this as well, but it was new to us and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We took a cross we already had from over at the shelter and on Easter we encouraged our congregation to bring flowers (real or fake) and add them to the cross by sticking them into the chicken wire mesh we put around it.
The cross turns into a beautiful bouquet of flowers, representing the new life that Jesus brings (and in a side benefit, it makes our whole church smell wonderful!). I love the symbolism of seeing children and adults come together, each bringing something small (a simple flower from their yard or from the store) and joining them together to create something so beautiful. This Sunday we will once again create our living cross in the Lobby. I encourage you to bring a few flowers (if you forget, we will have some on hand as well so everyone can participate) and watch as our cross turns into a living representation of the new life that Christ offers to us all and the resurrection that he displayed on that first Easter Sunday so many years ago. Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed! Oh, and I encourage you to take one more step this Easter...invite a friend, neighbor, co-worker or family member to join you Easter Sunday. Statistics tell us that 82% of people would go to church on Easter if they were invited. Are you willing to take that step of faith and be an inviter? Our service is at 10 am and all are welcome at Six Points. Step out in faith this Easter and invite someone to join you, it might just change their life forever! In Christ, Pastor Scott |
